The Role of the Army

The army has a mandate to defend a Nation, to protect vital national interests, and to fulfil national military responsibilities.

 Then ponder on this scripture

“The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.”

Psalm 46:7.

Heaven has a host of an angelic army with a mandate to protect and defend its citizens.  This heaven’s invisible army came through for Elisha when an enemy surrounded the city with horses and chariots. Elisha’s servant was scared but Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:17.

The angelic army that fights for us is full of fire and are super equipped with the strength to demolish every form of the enemy that may come against us.

So how should we respond to this privilege of having a host of an army to our defence?

  1. Make sure you are a citizen of heaven. The primary responsibility of the army is to protect its citizen, make sure you have accepted Jesus and are on the Lord’s side indeed.
  1. We should be thankful to God. Thanks be to God who has not left us on our own. It is because of the Lord’s mercy and protection that our enemies have not consumed us.
  1. We need to cooperate with the Holy Spirit. The Christian life is military life, this calls for obeying instructions from the Holy Spirit, studying God’s word, discipline,  prayer, purity and abstaining from things that can defile (gossip, disobedience, malice, bitterness e.t.c)
  2. As you pray to God to disgrace and disarm the external army that comes against you. Also, ask God to help you win the internal enemies.

Through the study of the Word, fellowship and prayer we can defeat the enemy of laziness, the enemy of fear, the enemy of sin, the enemy of doubt, the enemy of pride (Satan fell because of this one). Many things come against us and we need God’s grace and strength to overcome them.

Now that we know that we have been equipped by God to be victorious and that God has given us all everything we need for living a godly life (2 Peter 1:3).

May we grow in the fruit of the Holy Spirit, righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. In Jesus name. Amen.

Shalom.
